So, ripped out my mums 20 year old bathroom yesterday. The shower cubicle walls were never tanked or prepped as some would do nowadays with waterproofing etc.
That said it has lasted 20 years without issue.
However, once the tiles were removed i was presented with pretty much a wall of sandy mud. So i've ripped off all the plaster/bonding back to the bricks.
I'll allow them to fully dry out.
When it comes to rebuilding, should i:
Bond, then dot'n'dab/plug'n'screw Aquapaneling, or
Baton out then just aquapanel
Either way i need to build back out to the level of the rest of the wall, ready for tiling again.

Thanks for any advice.

I'd personally batten out with insulation between battens, and then fix hardie board. If you take really good care with your battening it makes the tiling a doddle.

Thanks,
not sure about the insulation though. Is it really needed.
The brick i mentioned is [obviously] the inner skin.
The batons will only need to be about 10mm thick to produce the depth of the bonding before the backer boards need go on. Assuming the backer boards are 12.5mm?

Can you plaster? If you can ( or bring a spread in ), then render up in 4:1 and take care to get it perfectly plumb, and square at all inside corners. The corners must be 90 degrees.
Doing it this way will eliminate all fussy details.

If you want to have a go, and you have some plastering skill, then come back here for advice.

Yeah, i'm not too shabby at plastering, do all my own work. Might not be a technical wizard at plastering, i just put the stuff on, level it, smooth it and it looks fine....and stays on the wall, lol.

kjacko,
are you saying that you'r confident to go at it, or would you like me to take you through it? Whatever you decide is fine by me.

Actually, i'm awaiting the bathroom fitter to come round as he may do it all himself. Depends on what level of prep he expects from me as i ripped all the bathroom out.

I'm pretty confident i can do it, but i'll certainly return to this thread for your advice if i'm expected to do it.

Thanks mate.
