In the better weather I will be replacing the odd spalled bricks below dpc with engineers. Don't want this work to put the existing bricks which are ok at risk of becoming spalled. Any hints or tips?
Suggest that when you start to remove the spalled, soft, failed brick, do not place undue pressure on an adjacent pristine brick, the added pressure of say a cold chisel levering against a good brick can cause the good brick to fail in the near future, as I have been told what can occur is that the levering action on a seemingly good brick opens up Micro Cracks that will allow rain water to penetrate and the apparently, now, good brick will fail in the forthcoming winters because of the Freeze / Thaw cycle that the rain water trapped in the Micro Crack will induce.
