Hi
I’ve anumber of bristan 1901 taps and some are leaking. I’ve ordered some replacement valves, but someone said I should get them with the silver heads as they come like that and won’t fit. Is that right?

I'm inclined to agree you need long spindle/stem insert/cartridges but yours may work but they'll be shorter in length.

As for isolation if the cold is gravity fed then you could go for the gate valve in the loft if fitted or just turn off the main and waste water. As for the hot there should be a gate valve or similar feeding the cylinder from the cold water storage cistern.
