replacing wall switches, sockets etc - legal?

I wasn't totally sure of this one so just checking on what may be a stupid question....

Can you legally replace sockets light switches etc yourself?
(I'm only talking about the face plate not the cage aswell.)

As odd as it is i've never needed to before now, as the plastic fitted ones have suficed...

If you are meaning is it OK to do it in your own house then yes, providing it is safe.
If you are replacing them with metal accessories then they need to be earthed (unless you get special double insulated ones).
