Hi,

I am repointing a gable end roof verge. When I removed the old mortar (sand and cement), the gap between the wall & roof tiles is about 3-4 inches. This is a stone cottage and I understand that they need to be pointed with lime mortar. Would this be ok to fill this area/gap with lime mortar? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would not use lime mortar there. I'd use a strong 3:1 mortar mix.

If you are repairing a single gap, then match whatever has been used for the rest of the verge - if there are no problems with whatever is there now

Cement mortar may be OK but if the rest of the building has lime, then use lime and stronger mix based on NHL 5 lime and sharp sand not building sand.
