Hi folks,
I have a walk-in shower cabinet in my bathroom. It was installed around eight years ago and I have a black mould problem. I am happy to pay someone to reseal the shower cabinet but I'm not sure what this is going to involve.

The mould has gotten down into the glass panel mountings. It also appears to be growing under the sealant. Would the cabinet have to be stripped down and rebuilt while resealing it? Alternatively, would I be better to replace the shower tray and the cabinet?

Should be possible to replace sealant . Have you tried any mould removal products? Helps to leave door open when not in use as ventilation helps prevent mould spores settling .

Your enclosure can be taken off and all the bad silicone cleaned off and then put back together and re-sealed.

As suggested, a shower should be dried after use and cleaned regularly. That and a good quality anti mould silicone needs to be used.

Would this be a job any plumber would take on Rob?

Doesn’t need a plumber , any competent handyman could do it , but not a job anyone would be chasing .

Any plumber that performs shower installs wouldn't find it an issue, As long as there's no issue will disassembly then it should be down and up in a day. I've done 2 in the last month.

Do you still have the manual for this shower screen/enclosure? I ask because you are not supposed to silicone the inside of the screen on +90% of these. Water gets inside the aluminium frame and is supposed to drain out into the shower tray, if you silicone all of the bottom you are just effectively creating a swamp full of nasty, hence the horrific looking sealant.

Ask me how I know :)
