Having spent until 5:30 this morning in Odstock special burns unit....I'll remember not to throw a handfull of extra cement powder in the mixer without any gloves on...The chemical burns on every finger are a nightmare...!...Did I mention..."OUCH"!!

Anyone know if you can get suitable gloves for brick laying...or how I can best finish building my wall.....obviously I "usually" use a shovel on cement powder.

Oh well...live and burn...errr..I mean...learn.

Ouch, were your hands wet at the time? What kind of cement, Ordinary portland or was it a lime cement?

Thick blue or red gloves should do the trick, but here's a tip, I always used to keep a guaging (spell) trowel on/next to the mixer for jobs like this, and getting the last out of the drum before getting a new mix on the go.

Hope you feel better soon.

Yep tis nasty stuff. Have burnt my knees before ,doing floor screeding and I am trade and should know better  Get well soon .

I must be some sort of freak. Worst I've had from spooning handfulls of portland was a relitivly minor case of dermititus. but then, my hands get abused so much the skin is a little on the thick side.

Sam.

likewise, suppose if you use powder of any sort over a period of time you get a bit hardy to it?
