Hi

Can anyone help? We are currently restoring a pitch pine staircase/banister. The wood itself is in very good condition and we have sanded back the old flaking varnish very well. We are not sure though which finish to apply. Should we go for a varnish/oil or something else?

Thanks

Oil is quick and easy to apply, gives same finish as varnish and does not flake or peel.

Depends on budget, Danish oil is cheap, or a for a little more Osmo oil.

I would use a two part laquer, high gloss and easy to keep clean, even the laquer used for solid floors, this is even stronger
