Is it possible to buy a flow sensor to retrofit to an existing CH system? I know some modern boilers have a sensor that will run the boiler whenever any TRV opens and water can flow through the radiator. It would probably solve the problem that some of our rooms warm up more slowly.

I have already balanced the system - after fitting new windows in the old bit of the house, the new extension doesn't get up to temperature. One solution is to fit a thermostat in that room so that it can keep the heating on for longer until it also reaches temperature.

What I am talking about is a sensor that detects the flow when any radiator's thermostatic valve opens and then fires the boiler up. They are present on some new boilers, but not on our old oil fired one. What I don't know is whether they exist as an add-on to retrofit to existing systems (I have yet to find one, but when I search I get lots of spares for systems).

To get a flow to a valve which has just opened the pump would have to be already on, surely?

Assuming this isn't a wind up.

You need to/should have separately zoned the extension.

Throwing a flow switch at the system will not work.

They are fitted to boilers for different reasons.
