After supplying a job we had to go out to and retro fit shark fin restrictors to when our customer decided they did in fact want travel restrictors (nightmare to fit after the steel is in the sashes.) Now we fit as standard.
They'll need to drill a series of holes through the steel reinforced profile, then file to a smooth rectangle. Then the shark fin restrictor will sink in and they will be screwed in placed behind the glazed unit. The main problem is there is hardly any overlap between the edge of the restrictor and the main body that sinks into the sash, so when drilling you need to be really careful.
The sashes should always be steel reinforced on sash and case windows, if it's not the job is easy mind you.
