Hi,

I have been told by the building inspector that I have to fit some joist restraint straps as a supporting wall has been removed and replaced with a beam. However, the wall that was removed was removed completely (no buttress perpendicular to the rear elevation remains).

My question is: how do I fit the restraints? Do I have to remove blocks every 2metres, put the straps in then rebed the blocks? Or is there a strap that can be internally face-fixed?

I hope that makes some kind of sense.

Thanks in advance.

The bco is prolly looking for joist restraint i.e. this. Scroll down.

You would need to drill out a hole at skirting height, slot in the restraint strap, the rotate it so that it is against the masonry. It then needs fixing across 3 joists. You are bast chiselling it in to prevent the floorboards from rocking when you fix 'em back down.

Don't forget the noggs either.
