Hi i bought an old vintage french phone and i want to connect it to the line at home. I have 4 cables comming out, yellow, blue, white and red. Any one knows how to connect them?

You could try all the permutations perhaps, e.g. white/blue..white/ red and so on. Terminals 3 and 5 at the BT box.

Set a multimeter to resistance, lift the phone off the hook and check for an almost full short, in the region of 100 or 200 ohms. That's your a and b, 2 and 5. One of the other ones will be the bell wire or 3.

Slips !!!! I should have put 2 and 5, I think I put 3 and 5. Last post is good simple advice though.

Thanks all I managed by just swaping the cables around. I also discovered that this particular model does not have a ring which puzzled me .
Thanks

Hiya North,

Glad you're sorted, I was about to make a european union gag about silent french phones, but I'd better not.

Take Care Mate.
