Always thought there was only two types of circuits for wiring in sockets namely radial circuit and ring main until recently told that the correct terminology is a ring final circuit.
So what is the difference between a ring final circuit and ring main if any?

A ring main is the circuit your supply company install under the street to supply all the houses. For a "ring main" in a domestic / commercial situation the correct term is actually "ring final circuit". Don't worry though, I think "ring main" is probably one of the most misquoted terms in the trade, second only to the light "bulb". Radial is the other type of circuit and this term is correct

In a ring final both sides go to one fuse and the ring is closed.

In a ring main the two sides go to separate fuses and the ring is normally open.
