Hello, in my new extension being built with a floor areea approx 46 sq metres.I was going to install a new 2.5 mm ring main and the LABC will inspect and test it. My problem is that doing the measuring although the sq.meterage is only 46 the cable run will end up as nearly 80 metres due to the house layout. Is this an unacceptable length? Is this likely to cause a problem when they test? The rooms will be a dining area and a bedroom. Thanks in advance .

From IEE On-Site Guide
In household installations a final ring circuit may serve a floor area of up to 100m sq., consideration should be given to loading in the kitchen
So you should be OK, If your worried about voltdrop you could install a 4mm ring :)

Cable length on the the ring depends on the supply type, circuit protective device type and current rating. Type B 32A MBC with 2.5mm twin & earth installed to method 6 allows a maximum length of 84m for a TN-S or TN-CS supply in table 7.1 of the OSG.

Thanks for prompt replies, I have a TN-S supply, Type B 32A MCB would be installed. May not put in furthest socket to give myself some slack.
