To me it looks like that whole wall above the archway is sopping wet.
I’m thinking knackered guttering combined with some poor pointing at the problem corner?
Is that your neighbour on the other side of the arch. Have they got any issues?

I think perhaps we've nearly worked out where the water is coming from.

I think you've got a leak. Show us the whole wall, all the way up to the gutter above,

, its the furthest away from all that except from the gutter of course.

it seems like maybe it happens only when it rains.

So if the gutter is leaking and water is getting on the brickwork at the bottom it will cause all the wetness on the wall inside??

Yes it can do if its been doing it for a long time. Especially if there is a bit of dody pointing there as well.
You may get some water running along, collecting and dropping off that cable as well straight onto the problem area.
There may be a few other issues in the corner as well but I reckon that could be major cause.

I dont think its a cavity wall these old 50's builds were solid 9inch thick
