Hi, I would like to replace my Robinson Willey Bantam ecotherm wall heater.
Can anyone tell which type of wall mounted gas fire I can buy to replace it?
Thanks Dave
The easiest option would be a Flueless Gas Fire. You would most likely need some additional ventilation if you don't have any already. Best thing to do is to look for installation manuals online and check under Ventilation. Whatever you do, please get a Registered Gas Installer to carry out the replacement, they will know what is required and more importantly what tests to perform (even on flueless gas fires).
JBPHS, you've stuck your head above the parapet by even mentioning a flueless fire. I personally have no issues with them, but a few on here will berate anyone who even whispers the words. All the old reports about a fatality will be resurrected. Correctly installed as you suggested, and regularly checked will pose no problem. I'll now retreat and take cover. Merry Christmas.
If they are correctly installed, commissioned and subsequently maintained, they should be safe to use. Let's remember that all appliances that are installed must have been passed to be sold on the UK market. Unfortunately, there has been many more fatalities caused by boilers, does that mean that I'm going to shot down for installing a boiler?
Let's not scare members of the public without knowing the full facts. I appreciate your warning, but I will stand by my belief that if appliances approved for the UK market are installed, commissioned and maintained correctly by a Registered Gas Installer. I have not yet been to a job where an appliance has been deemed dangerous where it has been correctly installed, commissioned and maintained.
I usually recommend the presence of a CO detector for each gas appliance to my customers, just for peace of mind.
Mate, It was not a criticism, but a simple agreement with your suggestion of a flueless fire, and that others on here will disagree vehemently with any suggestion of flueless.
