Hi there,

The timber that runs along the top of the party wall of my house appears stained and doesn't look great. It's dry and I've tested it with a screw driver to check if it's rotten and it's still firm. I'm wondering if it's from an old leak?

The house is Victorian and I believe the roof was replaced about 40 years ago. Roof space appears dry and I'm not seeing condensation elsewhere.

Any ideas how to treat/fix it?

If it's dry with no rot then possibly just an historical leak. I presume you mean the wall plate and the purling but where does that go through the wall to.
