In a recent report on my roof done for the purchasers of my house they stated the roof is in good condition but they recommend that 4 roof vents are fitted to allow better airflow. The report said there was some mildew spores on the timbers caused by condensation but I cant find any. The roof is constructed from slates with no underfelt and there seems to be plenty of air flow. I would have thought a slate roof without underfelt would not need any additional ventilation as there are bound to be small gaps allowing air in. So to you roofing experts are roof vents required for this type of roof or are they recommending unnesessary work.

IMO no roof without underlay would require additional ventilation. Although slates are quite close fitting compared with tiles there is still plenty of natural air flow.

Get in the loft during the daytime with no lights on and see how much daylight is visible, that all equates to air gaps!

The only daylight now visable since I overhauled the roof is at the eves ,do you think thats enough. There was some daylight in a number of places but I sealed them up because I thought the bloke doing the inspection would think a slate had slipped etc.
