Roofing battens for fence

I'm intending to use roofing battens to clad my existing fence, the only ones I can find are, yellow, blue and green, will it be ok to paint them? One of the merchants mentioned that he wasn't sure if the paint would work? I'm not sure why.

I don't see why, no different to painting treated cladding.

Our local timber yard sells 25x50 treated battens in normal treaed wood colour.

If you are doing Venetian style fencing, you can get some battens that have routed edges on facing side, they are a little thinner than roof batts, but look better in my opinion.
