Roy Hodgson for the England job?

Of course is was it your mistake, wouldnt expect anything less from someone who knows nothing about football and opens his big gob before he speaks!

Hodgson wasnt good enough for Liverpool, hence why he was sacked after 6 months. Whether he does it for England, I dont know....and I dont really care.

I think you'll find that even Dalglish isn't good enough for Liverpool given their form and results of late. In my humble opinion Hodgeson wasn't given enough time.

Having said that I would have preffered Harry for the England job.

Redknapp will be a millstone around Hodgson's neck. Every time a result goes the wrong way they'll all shout for Harry. Still, I wouldn't mind 4 million a year for failure - would you?

Agreed.

But Hodgson still capable, and has the international experience which is an important difference to club football.

Main issues are -

Long Term planning.

England need a 5 year term at least and accept that winning a trophy is not the only measure of success over 1 or 2 years. Set a realistic target. 1/4F in 3 out of four tournaments?

Take the pressure off players with above - 'fear of failure' stops them playing as well for England as at Club level.

U21 players should play in U21 tournaments and get the expereince as did the winning U19s two years ago.

Style of play , with familiarity with different systems bedding in from U16s up

Friendly games used properly, not just as top up for cap records. Either take be willing to take a full part as required, or let a younger or fringe player have a full game.

Free press yes - but fans should boycott papers who, for example, turn up at training sessions and publish photos of players making mistakes. And still pretend that they want England to do well.

Get grassroots footbal sorted, better coaches instead of numtpy dads shouting at kids and putting the fear of god in to them because they may lose a U11s lerague game. Let them play and enjoy it, let them make decisions and find out what works.

Disagree totally

If you look a the playing stats for Liverpool, they are up with the best. The problem is they just cant score, there are some things you can blame the manager for....others are just down to the players and luck.

I thought scoring was the point of the game. Though personally I think Andy Carroll was a good deal for us.

But Dalglish isnt on the pitch, Liverpool have hit the woodwork more than any other team, they have also put in more crosses than any other team....Not Kenny's fault certain players not producing.

One thing I've learned since moving to the North West is that Liverpool fans are passionate about their club and tend to be more forgiving if the manager is "one of their own". At the end of the day your defense of Kenny could be leveled at Roy too, the fact is that Liverpool haven't been good enough this year and the man in charge is Kenny.

Andy Caroll wasn't good business, he doesn't suit the Liverpool philosophy of playing football and certainly not worth £30m quid. Hitting bars and making crosses doesn't equate to points and it would be interesting to see what those stats would look like if applied to other clubs in the premiership.

I agree with everything you say, history has shown that the "fans favourite" for England manager has tended to be the "inspirational" personality type and non have done particularly well. I think Roy will bring something different in that he's tactically astute and he's had experience on the continent with differing styles of play in various leagues. If England reach the 1/4's in the Euro's I think that would be a good result.

Roy was never the man for Liverpool, hes a decent manager, good bloke....but Liverpool was too big of a club for him. His records show he wasnt up to the job, Kenny had an excellent record before he came back so his appointment at the time was perfect.

Andy Carroll wasn't worth £35m at all, but he was a rush buy after Torres left at the last minute, Liverpool agreed to pay £15m less for Carroll, than what they got for Torres...but they wasnt expecting £50m for him.

The stats for Liverpool are up there with the best, They have had the 2nd most shots on goal, they have the most shots off goal, but they are 2nd to bottom on accuracy. They have hit the woodwork more than any other team. Confidence and finishing is the problem Liverpool have lately, all round play is fine.

Kenny had had is day, I always think it's a mistake to make a come back, it's a bit like an old tired out boxer having his last hurrah and fading out to oblivion. As a stop gap perhaps but not long term. I even think Ferguson is past his sell by date and he'll end up an embarrassment in the end and undermine the memory of all the fantastic service he's given to Man U.

Andy Carroll would be a good player in the right team, that team isn't Liverpool and they might have been better served waiting for the right player or even giving a youth or reserve player a stint on the bench.

Even you have to admit that Liverpool don't posses the quality in depth needed to challenge for a top 4 spot the team is being carried by too few. One bright spot is young Spearing, I think he's come on leaps and bounds this season.

Cheers Crispier andlet's hope it's a good tournament

Problem with Spearing is, he at his best level now. I cant see him getting any better, his heart is there but he does lack quite a bit. Can see him being loaned out end of season.

You could be right if Kenny is given more funding to build up the squad, but I'm not sure after this seasons spree he'll get what he needs. It would be nice to see clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle do well, but we're in an age of wealthy owners with big egos and I doubt the financial fair play rules will help.

I say bring back the England B team, give players like Dyer, Sinclair, carroll, walker, mcechran some international football at a higher level than u-21. Less pressure and expectation might find some hidden gems

There's far too many games already. What the FA should do is to tell FIFA to shove it and pull out of that bent as f*ck organisation, even if that means just playing the odd friendly game.
All the rich European countries supply all the money, only to see Blatter and his third world cronies stitch them up everytime like they did over the world cup destinations.
