Hi,

I'm removing a chimney breast on ground floor & supporting the 1st floor chimney with an RSJ.. Structural engineer has specced 254 x 146 x 31 UB. And has specced 300 x 100 padstone at one end (internal wall) and 200 x 100 padstone at the other (external) wall, which makes sense as the breast is nearer the internal than external wall..

Need to get the RSJ and padstones 1st thing tomorrow and wont have a chance to talk to engineer. I'm not clear what 3rd dimension of padstone is. Is it 300 long x 100 wide x the height of a brick? or 300 long by 100 high by the width of a brick? Or what?

Also, I'm presuming that RSJ extends just 1 brick-depth into each wall (both are 2 bricks thick). Am I right?

Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Mike
