i have a large opening in a garage thats 5m wide. Just an hour ago i got a phone call that theres 3 rsjs that where cut wrong that i can get for half price. They are 5.5m long. They are 100mm wide x 254mm high. They would support the small gable on top however would the 250mm each side be enough built in for holding them in place. What would be the recommended length built into the walls on both ends for rsjs, lintels etc..

250mm bearing would be fine.
Depends on the loading, and the material of the wall.
But if it's a garage roof/gable, and the wall is brick or blockwork, even 150 would be OK.

Yes, 150mm minimum end bearing usually for steel beams and lintels..
