RSJ Raising Query

Hello all

My barn was converted in 1970, and an internal double garage created one end, with 5.5 metre length RSJ.

This might be simple, but is it (a) simple and (b) cheap?? to raise the RSJ by 5 brick courses.

Also I am in a conservation area - have had architect plans already aproved to convert, but this change was not mentioned when it went to planning. Problem?

If it involves raising the ridge line then there may be issues with planning.

If you are altering the external appearance then your Architect should have included this on the plans.

You may have to send in revised plans or re-submit

For the work, its a case of acro's, a long crow bar and maybe a bottle jack
