hi hoping someone can help or give some advice.

We are wanting to knock through to a downstairs extension. We are making an opening of 2.5 meters, in a brick and breeze block outside wall. the wall width including brick, breeze block and cavity is 250mm. What size rsj is required.
Many thanks

You need to contact a structural engineer to make the calculations for you, you would also need to contact building controls regarding this work and show them you have complied to calculation given to you.
Without knowing the load bearing weight and stress the RSJ will undertake, it would be very difficult to guess a lintel size!

You would need two steel beams side-by-side (one under each skin) and they would probably be 178x102 UBs for that span, and assuming normal domestic loading. But the council will still require figures to justify them.

Thank you for reply, yes normal domestic load, this wall was original outside wall before double storey extension was added.
