I had a wall which is a load bearing wall, it used to be the side of the house until we built and extension.

I recently had the calculations done to remove the wall, during the process to remove the wall, I had 8 acrows supporting the roof, 4 on both sides. The opening is about 3.5M and the beam and the columns supporting the beam are 12 inches to both sides.

The joists for the floor upstairs all sit on the RSJ, however I have noticed that between the joists, I can see the bottom of the bricks from the upstairs room, and they arent resting on the RSJ they are almost floating.

Should I brick up this gap? or is it ok to leave?

slate or metal packers are often used in this instance, as is sand/cement pointing. depends on the gap size and accessibility.
