I have an 8 year old house and I intend to install a wired alarm system. The installation is not a problem but I have got to thinking about how to run the cables.

As the house is quite new the floorboards are actually sheets of chipboard rather than the old-fashoned pine boards. So I am guessing that the sheets would be difficult to remove. I will need to run cables across the joist run so any tips for running the cables would be appreciated - I would expect to run possibly seven or eight cables to detectors and contacts.

One option I have though of is to run the cables behind ceiling coving. Is this frowned upon?

Thanks in advance

Only when I got a grumpy face on.
If your putting up coving then behind it is an ideal place to run the cable if its not to be seen.

Although you may want to also consider when er indoors gets bored of coving & wants you to redecorate & rip it down :D
