First of all i've already posted 2 new threads on this forum and have had a good informative response on both so thank you all who posted, really nice to no there are people out there so willing to help others.

Second thing and my main point i've been asked by a builder to run an swa to a outside shed, but whilst running this he also needs to run a new oil line and so he asked me if it was possible to run them in the same trench. I said i thought it was but that the one must be seperated from the other, could anyone please let me no if this is correct and if so how much soil must seperate them. Thanks

Considering I have wrapped oil pipes with 230vac trace heating to stop it becoming too thick I would not expect there to be any regulation as to distance they need to be apart.

However I would make sure both ends of the pipe are bonded to earth and some serious consideration needs to be given to shed earthing system if the house is not TT. (Earth rod).

Assuming Domestic in England or Wales this will come under Part P and if not using LABC do insure the Electrician that is being used is able to view the cable before the trench is back filled or you may have problems in getting the required paperwork.

There is a building reg that says that all services should be at least 300mm apart in the ground..

Don't know which one, but it is there... my brother got caught out by his BCO with this
