The spring which keeps the lid open after the button has been pressed has snapped in half.
Is it possible to get it replaced and does anyone have any advice on how to position a replacement spring with tension applied?

If you can get a new spring replacing it should not be too difficult as it will not be under much tension with the lid open. As has been said it will probably be cheaper to buy a new kettle than pay someone to repair it.
