Hello All,

I had a thought the other day re the s plan.

If I turn the water on it does the rads in the bathroom also. So heating + 2 radiators upstairs/downstairs.

Now it occurred to me as the system is running anyway surely the cost of turning the heating on also would be small as the pump and system will be fired up anyway... Have I got this all wrong?

Cheers.

yeah but if you think about it. The water to the radiator is being heated anyway and that won't stop until the programme stops. So if its only doing the 2 it may as well do the others and keep me warm in the process.

I'm going to have to test it and take a meter reading before & after. If anything the change would be small as the water/cylinder is also being heated. I could be dead wrong!

Yes, you have got this very wrong I'm afraid.

If your boiler is heating just the HW cylinder plus 2 rads, then it is using enough gas to heat the hw cylinder plus 2 rads. If you turn the heating on as well, more gas will be used for the greater load. You are having to heat a greater volume of water to flow through all the rads.

Think of your ch system as a kettle. A full kettle takes longer to boil, and uses more energy, than one with a cup full in it

.... and I thought I was on a winner. Thanks for letting me know and correcting my thinking anyway. That kettle did the trick :)
