Has anyone fitted safeplates to the underside of the joist (Ceiling side) rather than the top (floorboard side)?
What are the complications if any and is there any reason this should or can not be done?
I ask this question regarding to electricians guide to building regs App 10.1.1 Note 4 states hole notch on top, is there a reason?
I guess there must be regarding downward stress!

I thought notches were barred, other than for pipes ?
You must be able to still notch out for cable, Otherwise there is the odd occasion where it's imposssible to apply the regulations.
Notch out and run steel conduit or safeplates, have I missed something?

Notches are not permitted in the bottom of a joist anyway, only in the top.
I thought so.

Sometimes you have to notch the bottom of the joist when tight against the wall in order to run the cable across under the floor and down to it's destination in the wall.

A safe plate can be used to protect the cable.
