Hello, can anyone help me please. I've recently had a plumber out to look at my boiler, he told me my thermostat had lost contact with the receiver so he reset it, but it still won't turn off the heating!! I've reset it again today still not working. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The thermostat doesn’t appear to be calling for heat. Try switching the grey switch on receiver to off, and see if heating knocks off. Is the heating staying on on the time? Can you post photo of boiler display as well?

The heating comes on when the thermostat is used but won't turn off! I turn the heating down on the boiler to turn it off! The heating went off when I switched the receiver off

With RT500RF's they all come set with the same RF code, so there is a possibility that if a close neighbour has the same model, their thermostat could be switching your heating on. I've come across this happening twice now. If this is the case, changing the RF code setting would fix this. The instructions tell you how to do this. But follow them carefully and to the letter, otherwise it won't work.

The distance between the receiver and thermostat will also have an effect. If they are too far apart, or shielded by large metal objects they may not communicate effectively. As a test you could try putting the thermostat closer to the receiver and switching it up and down and seeing if it turns the receiver on and off. Wait a few seconds each time as communication isn't instantaneous.

Failing that it could be new thermostat time.

The thermostat has been in the same place for 12 years. When I reset it it was 2 foot away from the receiver for a few hours. The heating only comes on when I turn the thermostat up.

OK, the distance doesn't seem to be the problem then.

Resetting the unit won't help with the fault you have. All that does is reset the thermostats personal settings that you will have entered (ie times and temperature) back to the factory settings. It doesn't alter the RF code, you have to do that manually inside the receiver and thermostat.

I am just a bit puzzled when you say that the Salus doesn't ever switch the heating off, how you can then use it to turn it back on again.
The heating only comes on when I turn the thermostat up.

But whatever the case, it seems like the the two devices are communicating OK to switch the heating on, but not off. In which case assuming that the receiver isn't receiving spurious signals from a neighbours Salus then it I believe that it's probably new thermostat time.

I turn the heating off on the boiler, turn it on again and use the thermostat set the heating. It sounds about rite for my backwards house!! I'll try changing the setting like U said. Can I buy any make of thermostat or Does it have to be salus again?

Any thermostat will suffice, some people state stay clear of salus. You can have hard wired but extra wiring involved, or just replace the current wireless one.

Well since moving the thermostat closer to the receiver and removing the receiver cover, it's turning off the heating now

This cover!
