I had a phone call today from 'technical', telling me my broadband speed was fluctuating and dropping out.
They knew my landline phone number (clearly) and my broadband account number. They didn't know my name.
The attempted scam was to get me to run the event viewer on my pc, then get me to visit a website and download some 'fixing' software (read malware).
As a service to my neighbours, and the next caller on their scummy little list, I kept them talking for 36 minutes before I got bored and asked them to hold as 'there's a caller at the door'. They'd rung off by the time I picked up the phone receiver 10 minutes later, though I estimate there was a probable 40 minutes of time that they were talking to me, so 40 minutes that they weren't trying to scam someone else.
