What was it like before? Is it a new garden?

It is a house i bought a few months ago, it had been empty for 5 years so I guess you can imaging the garden. I have removed all the weeds and roots and got it to just soil which from my knowledge is good. It poured down today and it left no puddles anywhere.
Does this mean its got good drainage then and I can just turf ?
Shall I put some kind of fertilzer in before turfing ?
Is it ok to turf in Feb or shall I wait a bit longer ?

its ok to turf in feb as long as there is no frost due within the first couple of weeks of turfing
i tend to spread a pre-seeder fertilizer before i lay turf just to encourage quicker uptake
it sounds as if you soil is good enough drainage wise but just keep it from getting compacted, thats when the problems start
