Sanding finger parquet

We have a ground floor all covered in hardwood finger parquet, laid on screed. It’s pretty ugly stuff and it’s not that evenly laid. We want to overlay with Quickstep Livyn. We were thinking that to get the floor nice and level, to give it a sanding. Is it fairly easy to get the floor level and even, maybe using a fine grit to just sand down the high spots.
Or do we pour a layer of latex compound, Done that before with average success.
