Sanding the facia of a shelf square

I am sanding shelves to repaint them and I am having trouble sanding the facia of a shelf square. I am using the DeWalt D26410 orbital sander for the job. No matter how much I try, I haven't managed to keep the orbital sander square. Sanding by had will take ages. I have seen an attachment for Festool sanders that keeps is square not not for my DeWalt.

Is there a way of keeling the sander square to sand the facia evenly?

Wrong tool. Belt sander much quicker and has flat bed , orbital have soft bed which rounds the timber corners on an edge.

My Makita belt sander is too heavy so hard to use for this job. It's hard to control it and although it's flat I'll struggle to balance it on the narrow 44mm shelf facia.

I could clamp all 3 shelves and sand all in one. That will give me a wider surface might be easier. Would that work?

Possibly , what material are you sanding ?
