Satellite broadband

Hello there just wondering what the views are on satellite broadband as the lined service where i live is beyond a joke. Stop start but more of the stop.
I see quite a few places on the more remote parts of Scotland have satellite dishes fitted to there houses just wondering how thew get on with them .

isnt this called 'mid band'?
whats the data signal like for a mobile phone? would it not be more cost effective to get a mobile with unlimited data and then tether to your laptop/computer?
 
If you do decide to go down the 3G/4G route with a mobile "dongle", check out the signal in different weather conditions. The variation can be enough to render 3G "totally inadequate" in certain weather conditions.
 
thanks for reply's. Mobile coverage here can be a bit iffy usually get 2 - 3 bars depending on where you stand in the house. 3G is the max around here

you can hit good speeds (10mbps or so) on non cloudy days but the ping-latency will be around 200-500ms. which means if you play any online games is a NO. On bad/rainy/foggy days ping timing is increased and you get low speeds as well

Its a reliable solution though if you really need to work using the internet!
