Scantronic 9943EN keypad crackling interference noise

Hi, I have a Scantronic Eaton 9943 LCD keypad which has recently started to make a crackling, electrical interference type noise (almost like a crackling internal speaker?).

The noise is not constant and happens almost randomly with no rhyme or reason (i.e. not when setting/unsetting the system). The noise is not very loud, and can only really be heard when it's generally quiet with no other background noise around.

The keypad is physically 8+ metres away from the control panel.

Any idea what this could be and what my best course of action should be?

Dust in the keypad speaker ….keypad cable ran with mains cable….faulty keypad dry joint ….ect ect ect

What's the best way to remove the keypad to inspect it (for dust, loose connections)? Is it:

1. Enter installer mode from keypad.
2. Isolate mains.
3. Remove control panel cover to check for loose wires in there? And remove battery?
4. Remove keypad and inspect.

And then reverse the above i.e. reconnect keypad, reconnect battery, close control cover, switch on mains?
