Scot's pine wood? Staining to mahogany colour

I have this pine wood staircase that i intend on staining to a mahogany colour.

what is that type of pine? it's got a very deep coloured grain.

It doesn't look like Scot Pine, more like Douglas Fir or Yellow Pine in my estimation -
