Hi Im not sure this is the right place for this but here goes..

I have rented shop and the floor has been screeded. I like the look of it (white and grey marbled effect) and would like to keep it that way. I have been told that screed is just a base for the next floor type, not the finish itself but is there anything I can seal/varnish it with that will keep the look but be hardwearing enough to walk on and mop at the end of the day?

many thanks in advance.

Could you put up a photo? A screed doesn't have to be a base for the next floor type, it can be a hardwearing, strong finished surface. Your floor (black and white marble finish) sounds to me as if it's a finished decorative floor, similar to terrazo. Does it seem to you hardwearing at the moment, the type of finish you can mop, or does it look weak?

oh no - it's nothing fancy at all. I thought it was concrete but was told it is screed. It gives off a white powder. I like the industrial look of it and wanted to preserve it. It has blown in places as well but the shop area is sound.

You can get sealer to put on the screed to stop the powder.

If it's blown then it might only be a thin screed to cover over the old floor I would check out the thickness of it. Get a hammer and go across the floor and tap it gently to see if you get a hollow sound ,if its a good floor it should be a dull "thud" as you tap it. Like RC said try and get a picture up...
