This is my first time attaching stud to breezeblock - does the plug go into the wall and screw through the stud into plug? the screw would only be half way into the plug?

Breeze blocks will simply not hold.
Concrete blocks will.
For breeze blocks quality plugs and screws work best.
Op has breeze blocks.
