Hi, I am screwing a bracket to a piece of 30mm deep timber (screwed to wall). Behind the timber there is a little void where the screws will be going (I took out real plugs and screwing to timber instead, so there are rawl plug holes)

I don’t have any decent 30mm screws lying around, but I do have some 45/50mm screws.

My question is, will screwing through to timber and allowing the screw to protrude15/20mm beyond, effect the strength of the bracket? Or make no difference atall?

Cheers

Drill a small pilot hole and use screws you have then..

One question. Why not buy the right screws or treat yourself to a small mixed pack.

providing the protruding screws don't create a danger or get tangled up in electric cable - then no problem at all, it will even get a better grip (normally the point of the screw stays in the wood, and that last 5mm of point is not gripping anything)

Only if you hit a solid surface, or are to close to the end of the timber causing it to split.
