Seagrass carpet in staircase?

Hi,

I'm thinking of fitting a seagrass carpet in my staircase, but I'm not sure it's suitable. Has anybody got any experiance of doing it? Should you use an underlay? Is it best to glue it to the underlay? (I suspect staples will look a bit odd...)?

if its coarse woven grass off some kind probably not
if its nothing to do with woven grasses just egnore me
