I'm in the process of putting the toilet back in and noticed the silicone or sealant that was around the flush valve is peeling away.

Can I put abit of 820 sanitary silicone around it and leave it 24 hrs to cure?

You can try anything, but IMO it is always better to start afresh with clean surfaces and a new sealant of your choice. My choice would be Goldend Paste

I would remove the flush valve, remove the old silicone (might have to cut it away) and then reinstall with fresh silicone.

Tbh I think I'm going to buy another fill valve with a brass connection I'm having no end of trouble trying to reconnect it, it keeps going on at an angle no matter what I do I think the threads worn.

Trim it off around the flush valve. I had problems a couple of weeks ago with my flush valve - it wouldn’t stop trickling. I bought a new one and just changed the top half - made no difference. On closer inspection, a slither of silicone had come away, was still anchored at one end and was preventing the seal from doing its job.,

Scrape it off and use the rubber seal. If not practical just load more sealant on
