Securing laminate worktop to units - screws or something else?

[I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question - maybe a mod can move it if not?]

I'm fitting a kitchen and need to secure a 38 mm laminate MDF worktop to the units.

I'm wondering if any kind of screw is going to get a decent grip on MDF, or maybe if some kind of insert nut is more appropriate for this.

Anyone know what is the gold standard method for doing this?

Screws would be fine. Just the weight of the worktop is almost enough to hold it in place !

So a standard tapered wood screw should be fine to bite into MDF and pull it to the worktop?

The weight of the worktop will certainly do some of the work, but mine are slightly bowed so I want something that is guaranteed not to pull out when tightened up as far as possible. Maybe I should do some experiments with the offcuts.

You're massively overthinking this: if the units are all in and true then the worktops going nowhere,

Presumably you'll be putting sili round the wall? More support.

A couple of ordinary old gold screws is all you need
