Securing wood to plasterboard walls

Is there any plasterboard fixings that will secure 2x1 timber to a plasterboard wall?

Or will i have to use brackets?

What is it you're doing? what the 2"x1" for?

It was going to support some homemade shelving that was going to take a lot of weight, but i've decided just to order some free standing metal ones instead.
