what do you want to know? (apart from the other forum)

the other forum had to change, they were not allowed to post panel engineering manuals, remove a "private" alrm enginneer from a well known company section, so to me it looks like ...........well ths forum, only not 100% diy.

i have not been there for about a year so it may not even exist

just wanted to know more about alarms, fault finding etc and thought that would be a good start. there should be an alarm forum on here aswell

dont think there is much call for it.

It is a specialised job, you can not learn every thing there is to know in "10 minutes" (i wasnt saying thats what you did say)

its abit like here (electrics UK) if you have some knowledge you can be told how to ................... without it would be a waste of time.

most alarm panels are very engineer friendly and almost hand to you on a plate what is wrong.

fault finding is not that hard, so long as you have all the information first as to what happened etc.

the real hard part is knowing what each panel has as its "quirks" and how to programme it without having to read the manual

unless you are going into the industy, its a bit poinless knowing how to programme your own panel, since once its done its done (yes by all means read inside out, upside down and inwardly digest the user manual)

i know a fair bit about installing alarms and some fault finding. was mainly lookin to see what other faults people have had and what the solution was

how about this one then.

bell ringinging, keypad dead, no mains on panel, turns out (now this is 100% true) it was raining, bloke threw umbrella into cupboard, umbrella slipped on floor, tip of umbrella touched mcb off button, panel battery takes over, runs panel for 9hours then off it goes.

this was known becuse umbrella was still leaning on off button.

I could go on (my mate has told me loads) but there are true, genuine and sometimes amusing, but most people can not wire alight let alone an alarm, so not sure the forum would be a good idea.
