Stripped down the cam belt side of the engine today to examine what I thought was a leaky water pump installation.

Not sure whether I could run engine with cam belt covers removed (worried it might drift off the sprockets) so I fitted a hose pipe in the thermostat cover and ran water under lowish pressure.

Water pump housing is fine but noticed water seeping out of the line between block and cylinder head

I assume a head gasket problem.

I've done head gaskets before on petrol single camshaft engines before but never a diesel twin cam.

Would welcome advice on this and/or pointers to any guidance available

Thanks. Rob

That sure is bad luck Rob, but you say you've done the timing belt?
The rest is straight forward enough but prepare for a head skim and new cylinder head bolts - although I don't know this motor, only the Sorento.
Take the time to clean out the EGR when you are in there.
I assume you don't need to remove the injectors to do this job? If you do, tread very carefully and seek professional advice.
John :)
