seeking advice on 2nd hand boilers...

PaulAH, what do you wan't to hear from me? I think your questions have been answered. The professional does the same as the DIYer and uses test equipment, then gives you a bill. The professionalprobably has loads of bits to hand to replace faulty bits or to fix problems AND he has made of his mistakes on someone elses equipment. The DIYer learns by wrecking his own.

:D not sure oilman about the motor speed? you got ears like a bat ??

anyway my preferred test for weak capacitor is a sensitive hand

Why does he need you to tell him kev.

He can read the book like he did for the tightness test.

Got that one right didn't he

anyway wheres the twenty of these " " you ran out of nitrous oxide??

after reading all of this we have decided to get a pro in. We don't know what is wrong etc and it's a good idea to get them properly serviced. Been looking in the yellow pages and found a few people who seem to work over christmas break! we don't need it working right now just need to get it working within the next couple of days. Will these companies be a lot more expensive than the ones that don't work over christmas? I know that you cant say how much it will be to service a boiler as you don't know its condition etc but roughly for a boiler that hasn't been serviced in ages (i don't know how long ages is!) what would you expect?

Thanks a lot guys!

Andrew

Around £150 to £300 depending on what's wrong. Where are you?
