I will be applying self levelling compound to a kitchen which has several base units. I will be taking of the plinths then apply the compound to the floor.

My question is for the self levelling compound to work do I need to apply it all the way to the walls under the units for it to work or can I leave it a few inches short.

No,just a few inches short will be okay, you don't really need levelling compound under the unit as it doesn't do anything.

i would top just under the plinth, otherwise you will "stick" the feet to the floor too
