self levelling floor compound over old adhesive

Have I got to get rid of sticky old vinal adhesive before berfore applying self levelling compound?
I'm hoping that I can stick some some PVA on as sealant and away I go!!

all adhesive SHOULD be removed. But if it is solid and thin then you can go over the top.
